The intelligent decision support system (IDSS) named ‘LTLZone’, which was developed by a team of 3 people at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), with the aim of enabling logistics companies to provide higher quality services at low cost, received a double award. LTLZone, which came to life as a result of nearly 3 years of work, became the only project that received an award in the ‘corporate’ category at the Logistics Association (LODER) 11th National Logistics Project Competition. LTLZone received the best practice award in the field of information systems in logistics at the ‘Logistics Awards 2022’ organized in cooperation with Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty and Aegean Logistics Association (ELODER).
LTLZone, prepared by Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Head of IUE Department of Logistics Management, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sinem Tokcaer, and 2021 graduate of the department, Deniz Karvan, provides companies with many advantages.
REDUCES CARBON FOOTPRINT
The company representative, who registers to the system by entering the ‘LTLZone.com’ website, records the country and city information to which the cargo will be delivered. Then, the system automatically determines which loads should be placed on how many trucks or lorries, by determining nearby locations within seconds. Thanks to the ‘LTLZone’, which also eliminates the type of transported products, companies get rid of the trouble of unnecessary driving and their vehicles traveling with low capacity. LTLZone reduces the carbon footprint as well as the transportation costs of the users.
THE PROJECT PROVED ITS SUCCESS
Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Head of IUE Department of Logistics Management, stated that they proved their success by receiving awards among many projects across Turkey. Özpeynirci said, “We attach great importance to producing projects for the logistics sector. In addition, by providing employment opportunities to new graduates, we aim to bring young talents to our country and to create a good working environment for them. Deniz Karvan, a graduate of the Department of Logistics Management in 2021, joined our company as our first full-time employee after the internship she performed in the fourth grade. Deniz also supported us during her student years. We aim to increase the number of colleagues in the coming months. LTLZone also received the jury's special award in the “Atlas Logistics Awards” competition held within the scope of the International Logitrans Transport Logistics Fair in Istanbul last year. The awards and the positive reactions we have received are indications that we have made the right project.
