A special song is composed in order to lift our spirits during these days when the coronavirus cases started to decline, and to call attention to the “Stay at Home” orders pointed out by the experts all the time. Alaskar Abbasov, Music Consultant, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Aslıhan Doğu, Graduate of IUE Department of Psychology, prepared a song together called “Gelecek Bizim (The Future is Ours)” which is about overcoming coronavirus and getting back to normal life. The song composed by Abbasov and lyricized by Aslıhan Doğu, will be broadcast on social media platforms and the internet. Some of the lyrics of the song, which is originally written in English, are: “I know it is hard to find something to do at home. This shall pass if you stay at home. The sun shines on us despite everything.”
“POWER OF MUSIC”
Indicating that they used the power of music in struggle against the coronavirus, Abbasov said, “The humanity is going through a difficult period due to the coronavirus. We came to appreciate the value of just wandering around the streets. We realized that each day and moment is precious. Of course, we will beat coronavirus. Meticulous efforts turned out to be very effective. We thought that we can uplift the spirits of people with a song during this time when we are all confined to homes and raise awareness about taking necessary measures. I composed the music and Aslıhan wrote the lyrics. It has been a decent work that we feel good about.”
“WE WANTED TO INSTILL HOPE”
Aslıhan Doğu, who also sings the song, graduated from IUE Department of Psychology last year and had been involved with music for a long time. “Music and art have been used to express emotions and thoughts since the earliest times of history of humanity. So much so that feelings cannot be expressed directly sometimes. We must not fall into despair ever. We believe that every cloud has a silver lining. We wanted to instill hope in people via music. We wanted to point out the importance of protecting ourselves and the society. We hope that these days shall pass, and we will reach health and happiness again as soon as possible,” said Doğu.
