Izmir Economics youth, who act upon the principle, ‘world will flourish through design’, will get a chance to improve their design skills thanks to the accomplishments they achieved in the contests held in Italy. Pırıl Ceyin Karakurt, Graduate of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in first place among faculties of fine arts and design from Turkey at the contest held by European Institute of Design (IED, Istituto Europeo di Design) and qualified to receive scholarship for graduate studies. Begüm Sena Önal, also a graduate of IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, will receive education with “Invest Your Talent in Italy” scholarship granted by Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pırıl Ceyin Karakurt reported that the contest was held in all branches of design, and she was the only person to have won the contest from Turkey. Karakurt said, “I’ve received a full education on design in my university. I see the outcomes of that in business life and in the contest I attended. I will receive graduate education for one year. I would like to design for luxury stores, restaurants, and bars. I will focus and improve on brand design. I’ve taken Italian as a second foreign language at the University. I believe I will have a successful year”.
‘The capital of design cultures’
Begüm Sena Önal commented that Italy combined people of different cultures, and Milan was one of the leading European cities when it came to design. Önal stated that she also got a chance to perform internship in Italy as part of the scholarship she received and that she would improve her studies in the field of interior architecture.
