Buse Deniz, graduate of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Physiotherapy Program, ranked 93rd in Turkey in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) where about 389 thousand people entered this year in order to qualify to study at a four-year program. Stating that she did not like to study in high school and in the early years of the university, but she changed with the guidance of her academics, she started to focus on her classes and chose a completely different career goal for herself, Deniz said, “I knew I would be successful in the exam but achieving the degree was a great pleasure for me. I was excited, stared at the screen for a long time, experienced one of the most joyful moments of my life.”
23-year-old Buse Deniz, who lives in Konak district of Izmir, enrolled in the IUE Vocational School of Health Services Physiotherapy Program in 2017 with the guidance of her parents who are nurses. Deniz, who succeeded in the university exam and had the opportunity to study in the program she wanted, started to improve herself in a short time. Deniz, who started to concentrate on her classes in her last year, contrary to the high school period and the early years of the university, set herself as a goal to increase her education to four years by transferring to the undergraduate program. Buse Deniz, who wanted to study at Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, was able to reach this goal by ranking high in DGS exam she entered this year. Having completed the application process last Friday, Deniz proved that all difficulties would be overcome with determination.
MY ACADEMICS CHANGED, MOTIVATED ME
Stating that she is happy to study at the department she dreamed of, Deniz said, “The education I received at my university and the academics I knew changed my life. I am a social person. I love traveling, reading books and spending time with my friends. I've been interested in my lessons since high school, but frankly, I didn't like studying. However, I also wanted to be a disciplined and successful person. I did not reach my full potential. I would experience loss of concentration on this issue. I changed at the university thanks to my professors. They motivated me highly, they stated that I could be successful in DGS and that I would improve myself further with a four-year undergraduate education. My family also helped me a lot during this period.”
I WILL NEVER FORGET
Deniz continued as follows: “I believed that I would be successful in DGS and enroll in the department I aimed. So, it happened. However, ranking 93rd in Turkey surprised me a little. I was very happy when I first saw the results, I stared at the screen for a long time. It was a very important day for me that I will never forget in my life. Now I have another path ahead of me. I will study in the department I want, and I believe this will open many doors for me for the rest of my life. I am excited and confident in myself. I would like to thank my university and my family who believed in me and contributed greatly to my success.”
