Natural Stones are being reshaped by design. Tuğçe Savran, Graduate of Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), created a new use for natural stones, which are commonly used in floor and wall tiles, by transforming them into three-dimensional shapes.
Savran, who got inspired by marine life, used limestone, marble, and travertine in her designs. Savran is getting ready to exhibit her work in USA, Saudi Arabia, and Europe. “My marine life inspired designs bring a new perspective to natural stones. These designs will be used in wall tiling of hotels and houses. I wanted to try something other than using natural stones as flat surfaces. I created 10 different designs based on marine animals. I used these designs on marble, travertine, and Muğla region white marble,” said Savran.
Her designs, which can be used indoors and outdoors, creates different shades in day light or in artificial light, indicated Savran and she said that she used unique and modern patterns with natural lines.
