Chefs, cafe workers, baristas, as well as artists will be wearing designer aprons. Nihan Çakıroğlu Erküçük, Graduate of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), reports that she designs more than an apron, rather a custom design “new generation assistant”.
Erküçük, who indicated that design is in every industry, said that with her “Monapron” titled apron brand, she aimed to design aprons that contribute to creativity of individuals. “I wanted to help reveal the creativity of individuals involved in any form of artistic profession such as hair designers, tattoo artists, make-up artists and designers, fine wood artists, ceramic artists, sculptors, and fashion designers, in addition to baristas. I did not want my design to be a standard looking apron,” said Erküçük.
Erküçük stated that she provided corporate apparel designs and consultancy for companies, and she manufactured barista aprons for an EXPO fair in Antalya and started to work on apron designs since then. Erküçük said, “We’ve realized that apron was a necessity. I’ve established the brand “monapron” which bears the meaning apron. Individualized, custom designed aprons with unique pocket designs and position on the apron help artists feel more like themselves. We can re-position the pockets on the apron according to line of professions. We try to make our designs to be more entertaining and unique”.
