Car interior design meets comfort. Didem Çiftçi, student from Department of Electrical and Electronics, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Emre İçöz, graduate, also from the same department, and Mert Gültekin, Master’s student at IUE Design Management Program, made custom design lighting for the car headliner by using LED technology.
The design came in second place among 112 projects in Student Category at the Automotive Component Design Contest held by Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB). The students, with the support of IUE Embryonix Technology Transfer Office, developed custom design for car headliner, a component often ignored in car interior design.
Didem Çiftci gave information about their project and she said, "Car headliner is one of the least used components in a car. The fact that it is an empty and large area helped us come up with this idea. We use a special fabric where we can make designs unique to customers. By using LED technology, the lighting system in the headliner offers more enjoyable trips for passengers. Our designs offer more stylish and spacious interior in cars. Also, the special type of fabric we use in our projects is not manufactured in Turkey. If this project makes a hit, we might even think about manufacturing the fabric domestically. This way, through local production, we can lower the cost and provide cheaper solutions for users".
