Bicycles will become part of house decorations and be safe at the same time. With more and more people using bikes nationwide, thefts started to increase which motivated designers to come up with smart solutions. Can Geren, graduate of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, designed a bike hanging rack called ‘Woody’ for indoors. Bicycles will no longer be left in front of buildings or in balconies, and will be protected against burglars.
Geren stated that the product did not require an extra apparatus to be mounted on the wall and the rack occupied the minimal space possible with its ergonomic design. Geren said, “This prototype is a bike hanging rack for indoors. This authentic product uses a minimal space possible with its ergonomic design. It becomes an efficient piece of the decoration. Its folding pieces make it easy to carry and move around.”
Geren mentioned that he only used wood in the product and did not use any glue or screws to bring the pieces together or form the movable parts. He also said that he placed cork on the surfaces where the bicycle touches the wood. “The product I designed creates great comfort and it also makes it used as part of an interior decoration. Woody brings an end to the problem of where to park the bikes safely anymore,” stated Can Geren.
