Izmir University of Economics (IUE) initiated its mentorship project for its new coming students. 108 mentors, selected among third and fourth year students, will share their knowledge and experiences with the new comers of Campus Izmir in order to accelerate their adjustment period and help them develop socially.
The project will continue until the end of the first semester. Mentors will introduce the departments, programs, and provide detailed information about campus facilities to the new comers. Mentors, who will ensure new coming students will be active by helping them participate in social clubs of the University, will be in touch with them all the time via a WhatsApp group.
“WELL-RECEIVED”
Assoc. Prof. Tarık Saygılı, Lecturer at IUE Faculty of Business and Acting Director of Health, Culture, and Sports, indicated that they placed much importance on the project, and the mentors were selected after a detailed and thorough interview. Assoc. Prof. Saygılı said, “The project, which aims to accelerate the adjustment period of new coming students, co-initiated by IUE Alumni Relations office and Career Guidance Center, was well-received. Actually, this project was started in 2015 for the first time, but this year it is more extensively used. New coming students reported that they were very satisfied with the help they received. We are here to help them self-develop and ensure they benefit from all facilities of the campus. Of course, their satisfaction make us pleased as well. We started to take applications for mentors around June. Out of 300 applicants, we selected 108 with a thorough interview.”
“WE CARE ABOUT STUDENT NEEDS AND DEMANDS”
Stating that they especially cared about the demands and opinions of the new coming students, Assoc. Prof. Saygılı said, “We aim to meet the expectations of our students via new projects. The key for our students to be successful is offering them a high quality education in addition to providing them a dream campus where they feel comfortable and happy. All our efforts are based on this. At this point, students’ opinions are very leading and guiding for us. Acting together with students, we will continue to bring special projects on campus.”
