Yeliz Cengiz, Graduate of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), presented her “Saza” titled collection to an appreciative audience at the new building of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Fashion Designer Cengiz displayed 25 wedding gowns she prepared in 6 months by using macramé, a form of textile produced using knotting techniques.
Among the audience attended the fashion show were Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, members of Fashion Designers Association of Izmir, family and friends of Cengiz, and many other guests.
President Ekrem Demirtaş reported that the Department of Fashion and Textile Design started to work on various projects since the establishment of the University in 2001. “Nobody was organizing fashion shows then. None of the companies in Izmir was able to organize a fashion show on its own. We set up the ground floor in our old building and helped 5-6 companies in Izmir organize a fashion show. Now our students, graduates are displaying their own fashion collections. Here is Yeliz Cengiz organizing her own fashion show. We are extremely proud of this well-deserved success,” stated President Demirtaş.
