Uniforms of sports teams take form by creation of Cem Candaş, graduate of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Fashion and Textile Design. 3rd generation representative of Candaş Spor Malzemeleri Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi, Cem Candaş, puts his signature under the creation of uniforms of Athleticism and Archery National Teams and materials of Turkish Ice Hockey Federation.
The company was originally founded by Muharrem Candaş, who became the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion in Stockholm in 1950. The new representative of the company, Cem Candaş, has been leading the sports world for two years since his graduation from IUE. Candaş, who indicated that they were in the business of sports textile, and they provided uniforms and materials for schools, said, “I am the new representative of a 50 years of experience. My grandfather started this journey in Kemeraltı, and now I continue with my father and uncle at Izmir Ataturk Organized Industrial Zone. My big sister Merve Candaş, also a graduate of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and I plan to take our company further by building on top of their experiences. I received technical and applied education at the department which led me to have vast experience as a student. Now I put these in use at our long-established company.”
Candaş pointed out that after the education he received; he possessed the knowledge to serve in each stage of shaping of the textile product. He said he knew what sewing, pattern, drawing was, and that brought him advantages in his career. Candaş, who stressed the importance of the education he received at IUE, said, “I did not act like a rookie at the workshop when I first started this profession. I graduated with enough experience to do the job of the technician. IUE prepared me technically. I also got educated on printing. I use my imagination. We learned the best about printing. IUE has the best equipment. So you learn the best.”
‘Sports textile requires expertise’
Candaş said they headed for team sports in production and there were hardly any companies doing business in that category. Candaş stated the following:
“Each sport has a different uniform arrangement. While the gap underarm for a volleyball player is important, the same thing is not a concern for a football player. These all require different specializations. We offer these to the teams. In addition to serving the National Teams, we also serve Arkas Volleyball, Gelişim Koleji, and 2nd League Teams as well. I display my creativity along with my education. I did not prepare for the aptitude test. I did my first drawing at the aptitude test. I highly recommend the candidates not to get excited and scared of the test.”
