Wedding gowns are also becoming eco-friendly. Yeliz Cengiz, gradute of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that the brides-to-be opted for natural look, and natural fabrics such as linen, cotton would be used in 2017 wedding gown designs.
Cengiz pointed that wool, cashmere, cotton, and silk replaced polyester fabrics in wedding gowns. She said, “Artificial silk, polyester, acrylic, acetate, and nylon fabrics are preferred more nowadays. These fabrics are wrinkle free and stain free, however, because they are made out of nylon and plastic, they don’t let the skin breathe. Therefore, natural fabrics are making a comeback.”
Today’s youth look for elegance and comfort, and brides want a natural look, reported Cengiz and she also said that natural look in hairdo’s, make-up, wedding bouquets, and every detail regarding organizations stood out. “4 thousand years ago in Egypt, the brides used to wear white, linen wedding gowns. Linen is preferred in many countries. It is possible to design more natural, affordable wedding gowns with cotton or linen. Eco-friendly wedding gowns will take center stage in the coming period,” said Cengiz.
‘15 eco-friendly designs of 2017’
‘’I’ve designed 15 different eco-friendly wedding gowns for 15 brides who want to look natural in 2017. I’ve used linen, silk, and cotton fabrics. I’ve wanted to bring a breath of fresh air for brides wanting to look au natural,” said Yeliz.
