Hilal Karakaş, a senior at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in second place at the Junioshow Baby and Kids Wear Young Designers Competition with her special collection she designed for babies aged 0-12 months. Karakaş, who ranked second at the competition co-organized by Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) and Baby and Kids Wear Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (BEKSIAD),and supported by the Ministry of Trade, qualified to receive 5 thousand TL award and a scholarship to study design abroad.
IUE student Hilal Karakaş attended the nationwide design competition with 3 designs, each for baby boys and baby girls, which do not contain any synthetic material. Karakaş, who worked on her collection called "Doğa ana (Mother nature)" for almost a month, made a point of using cotton and entirely natural materials in her collection. Karakaş’ collection of overalls, onesies, and bodies for babies brought second prize to Izmir. Karakaş received her award from Bursa MP Atilla Ödünç and Mayor Alinur Aktaş of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality at the ceremony held at TUYAP Bursa International Exhibition and Congress Center.

Karakaş reported that an 8-member jury deemed her worthy of receiving this award which she is very happy about. “Last November, I have been awarded the special jury award at the House-wear and Beachwear Design Contest held by Denizli Exporters Association. I feel very proud to be deemed worthy of this award for my collection for babies. I would like to pursue my career in the field of fashion after I graduate. Receiving these awards motivate me to go further in this field. Also the education scholarship granted to me is very important. I believe studying abroad will contribute too much to me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my academics who always supported me,” said Karakaş.
