Karaman, reminded the youth about moral values through her visual designs based on the fables she re-fictionalised. She brought 7 characters; fox, wolf, mouse, donkey, lion, cat, and dog together in a universe she called Odron, where the hero meets these characters and returns back home after learning the moral lessons. Karaman will be sharing Odron, which includes her illustrations and story, as an e-book with readers very soon.
Aylin Karaman stated that it was more important to understand the fables of La Fontaine in today’s society, and she realized that the fables which were translated by famous Turkish poet Orhan Veli were a bit difficult for children to comprehend, so she especially expressed this in her book. Karaman said, “La Fontaine dedicated his work to family line, between the ages of 6-16, of succession to the throne which gave the impression that he wrote his fables for children. La Fontaine gave human qualities to animals, where he criticizes them and gives morals. It is very important for youth to understand these morals in terms of shaping our future. Therefore, I changed the target group.”
Karaman stated that her target group was the youth between the ages of 15-24, and she reinforced her story with characters and morals of La Fontaine. She said:
“I created a universe called Odron in my story. Odron has spectacular forests and an exquisite nature but no other human being besides my character. There are also animals that can talk. In my story, the character arrives at Odron without even realizing how, and looks for ways to get back home. During that time the character meets various animals and learns new things about life and him. I illustrated the story and turned it into a book. I did not use any colours on purpose in order to reflect the dilemma and despair my character feels. I wanted to provide clues about Odron for readers through my own illustrations and feed their imaginations.”
