Graduates of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) stand out with their success in their careers. Gözde Karadana, graduate of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, help brides create their own stories through her designs. Karadana, who has her own Haute Couture brand called, ‘La Bru’ in Bostanlı since 2011, enlivens the story of each bride to be in white, the colour of pureness.
Gözde Karadana, who stated that the education she received at IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design had great contributions to her career, indicated that the design of showcasing was the most significant factor for a store. She also said she was taught that each design had a story, and she appreciated the meaning of that much better in her work life. Karadana said, “We were taught that design was a system and everything had a rationale. A person can make a design by using imagination but the systematics for that should be learned first. IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design taught me all of those. The biggest contribution to my career was that I learned how to sew very well. Sewing is the basis of this job. If I have not learned how to sew, my designs would not have come to life.”
Karadana pointed out that she had lots of customers from many cities in Aegean Region. She said, “Aegean people appreciate quality sewing, different designs, and good products. Many brides-to-be come to my store with their families especially from Akhisar, Nazilli, Uşak, and Denizli. I am very proud and happy to make their dreams come true for the best day of their lives.” Karadana indicated that she placed importance on workmanship, and she did not use any ready material. She said her eyes teared up when she watched a wedding gown she designed on the runway.
Gözde Karadana pointed out that she came out with better designs if the brides-to-be knew about what they wanted in their wedding gowns. She also made the following recommendations on having the wedding gowns they dream about:
“A bride-to-be should ask what kind of a gown would look better on her body type. When she comes with a model she likes in a magazine page, it would be the end of my creativity. She may get inspired from a story, and I may create many designs from that story. Knowing the character of the person helps me to make it a more custom design. Also, instead of coming here with first-degree relatives, if they come here with their fiancés, the brides-to-be would feel more comfortable.”
